From the Desk of the Director

Dear Friends

The Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped came into being as an autonomous organisation in the year 1976. It was started by Late Shri Nirankar Swaroop as a Non-governmental organisation in late fifties to cater comprehensive rehabilitation services to the children and persons with disabilities. It started pioneering work of manpower development in field of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy in the Northern part of country. The erstwhile voluntary organisation was taken over by Ministry of Social Welfare, Govt. of India in the year 1975 and converted into a registered society in the year 1976. The Institute is running degree courses of BPT and BOT of 4 ½ years duration in affiliation with University of Delhi. The pass out graduates and earlier diploma holders from the Institute have been preferred by various hospitals, rehabilitation centres and health care organisations in India and abroad.

Apart from manpower development the Institute is providing comprehensive rehabilitation services to the persons with locomotor disabilities. These include therapeutic management, aids and appliances, social, vocational and psychological counseling and job placement services. We also extend services to remote areas in collaboration with concerned district administration Southern Regional Centre (SRC) at Secunderabad ,CRC at Lucknow and Srinagar and Satellite centers in Tonk (Rajesthan), Nilokheri (karnal Haryana), Seemapuri & Narela (Delhi)  strengthen the arms of the Institute in extending Institutional rehabilitation services.

It is the collective effort of the faculty, professionals and management that the Institute has been able to sustain its prestigious image over the decades. It has been the cooperation of dedicated people, social workers, volunteers and concerned district administrative that we have been able to extend our services to the needy disabled persons.

Our website has been developed  keeping various stakeholders of the society in mind. I believe this will meet the immediate queries of the stakeholders and enthusiastic social workers. To make it more useful and interactive the Institute will welcome any suggestions given by an interested persons for improving over the existing mode of information dissemination. We will be grateful if the suggestions regarding improvement in activities of the Institute are also communicated to us by the learned and concerned people of the society, who are dedicated to the cause of persons with disabilities. We are always in the services of the mankind.
